Home school field trips are a little different around here. Today we got to butcher our dinner. We raised these free range meat birds on our own farm. They will taste better then any chicken you find at the store. Better for you too!
Dad, Alice, Timmy and I took our butcher chickens to Mr. and Mrs. Schills farm to butcher. Since we don't have our own equipment to use on butchering day they offered us the use of theirs. They also helped us butcher them.
This is the first time that I have gutted the chickens. Mrs. Schill showed me how and after a couple more I could do it alone. It wasn't even as bad as I thought it would be!
Timmy was our chicken catcher. He said it was really fun, but I think it's mostly because he also slit a chickens throat. It's funny how wonderful he thought that was! One of Timmy's chores has been to feed them. So he has had the privilege of watching them go from chick to chicken noodle soup.
Alice did the final washing and cleaning. Quality control, she did an awesome job!
The only pictures I got are of cleaning up and bagging the chickens. :( I guess gutting kind of got in the way of taking more, but we had a lot of fun. I've been studying about digestive systems. I easily found the stomach, liver, and intestines. Science class was my favorite today!

I am very jealous that you got to spend the day with Mr. and Mrs. Schill! Great job on gutting your chickens, that's my job when we butcher. I should hire you three to help us! :)
